There is significant variance in some of the oak being supplied at
present, much of which is not of the best quality as it is the unusable
left-overs after floor planking has been produced, for example.
The Oak that D&S Oakworks Ltd uses comes from managed woodland.
Up to 65% of the tree can be regarded as unsuitable for construction
and is set aside for other purposes.
At D&S Oakworks Ltd we only use construction grade oak, the timber
being graded as suitable for construction purposes by its grain structure
and the number and size of knots. This oak is not as cheap as none-construction
grade but we know our customers are getting a quality product that
is fit for purpose. If you get a cheaper quote you are probably getting
a cheaper grade. Please ask before you buy.
ASSEMBLY
All joints are pre-assembled before any pieces are despatched from
our workshop. Here at D&S Oakworks Ltd we also sand all surfaces
and offer an option to cut stopped chamfers into heavy sections, a
small touch but one that enhances the aesthetics and brings a timber
to life. Because we hand finish all members we are also inadvertently
conducting an inch by inch quality inspection which further guarantees
customer satisfaction. Because we are a small family business anyone
at D&S Oakworks Ltd who works on or handles a product has a vested
interest in it, this further ensures our quality.
